A while back, I was involved in a discussion where this topic came up: When it comes to reaching your vision, what is the difference between perseverance and stubbornness? How do we know whether we are persevering or simply being stubborn? After thinking about it, here is my conclusion:
A while back, I found a quote that got me thinking: “Amateurs think about tactics. But professionals think about logistics.” I first heard it in an episode of Hardcore History podcast. It talks about how logistics is often the determining factor in wars. You might have superior troops and tactics, but without good logistics, you wouldn’t be able to achieve your objectives.
Do you want to be excited about your day? Do you want to go through your day with enthusiasm? While I still have a lot to improve, I can attest that I’m often excited about my day. As a result, I go through it with enthusiasm and end the day feeling fulfilled. How could that happen?
I’m currently reading A Man for All Markets, a memoir by Edward O. Thorp. It chronicles his story as a mathematics professor who tried to beat the casinos in gambling games. Later, he did something similar in the financial markets. He eventually became the pioneer of quantitative finance. I enjoyed the book and learned a lot from it. Among others, the book taught me about calculating the odds before making a bet and balancing risks and returns.
As we are ending 2020 and approaching 2021, a question came to my mind: how can we thrive in 2021? 2020, needless to say, has been a challenging year. The word “unprecedented” seems to be used again and again. But 2021 is coming. How can we make the most of it?
